While I haven't read that particular paper, I did read Engines of Creation,
and am aware of the potential problem. I don't have in mind a machine that
would be turned loose indiscriminately. At least at the start, I'd have to
operate the machine in some manner. Perhaps later on some kind of GPS
limiting could be used so that I could put it on the edge of a blackberry
patch and it would only process what's in that patch. Even that could have
unforeseen problems, but that's why we build a little, test a little, until
we get it right.
