I am eager to get my hands dirty and see what I might be able to do to
contribute to the RepRap project. In the past, I have dabbled with some CAD
systems, starting with Generic CAD, back in the 1980's, and ending up with
Corel Cad, shortly before they sold it. I've mostly drawn floor plans and
plans for furniture projects, and also have an interest in modeling
buildings. I'm very interested in being able to produce a model of a building
from a CAD drawing using a Rapid Prototyping machine, and this project seems
like a great way to move in that direction on a modest budget.
With that in mind, I'm investigating the various CAD systems I found mentioned
in your documentation.
Is anyone on the list using Varkon? I downloaded the source and tried to
compile it on my SuSE 9.1 system. As installed, this operating system did not
have development tools, and not being a C programmer, I've installed things
only as I've discovered I need them.
So, the first attempt to compile Varkon failed right away with errors that
showed me that I didn't have X11 development files. Using YaST, I loaded
them, or at least what I assumed to be them.
The second attempt to compile Varkon had substantially fewer errors. This
time, it looks like what I'm missing is OpenGL. Here's the first two lines of
the error messages:
In file included from gp1.c:43:
../../DB/include/DB.h:89:19: GL/gl.h: No such file or directory
I went back to YaST, but have not been successful locating OpenGL. Somewhere
in the Varkon documentation I'm pretty sure I read that they developed this
software on a SuSE 9.1, system, so I'm assuming I should be able to get what
I need.
Can anyone describe the package name, and where it's kept in YaST, for OpenGL,
assuming, of course, that it is what I'm missing?
Also, as I'm new to this list, please let me know if I should be asking this
on a different list.
Thanks.
