MEDIA ARCHIVE FOR CENTRAL ENGLAND
ACCESS ARCHIVIST
c. £23,000 -c. £26,000
Archive film illuminates the history of the 20th Century like no other medium. New moving image media are recording our lives now and are the archival record for future generations.
The Media Archive for Central England is the regional archive collecting, preserving and making accessible the moving image culture and heritage of the East and West Midlands. We are an independent company and charity based at and with close links to the University of Nottingham.
The challenge which faces us is to secure this material and make it ever more accessible in a wide range of different contexts.
We are looking for an innovative, enthusiastic and pro-active professional to work with MACE's Director to spearhead our commitment to making the collection widely available and to developing new audiences. There are many different ways to deliver access to archive film. We will want you to develop as many as we can but in particular we wish to explore and exploit the access opportunities presented by the internet.
In addition to the access development work you will undertake the full range of tasks associated with the development and day to day management of a moving image collection. This will include acquisition decision making, viewing and cataloguing materials, research and some technical film and video work.
This is a hands-on role requiring a broad range of skills. Though specialist knowledge of film and video in a collections environment would be advantageous, we will give specialist training to the candidate who brings the right approach and experience to developing our access ambitions.
This experience may be in moving image collections or it may be in access and/or education work in a museum, archive, library or arts organisation or elsewhere.
This is a unique opportunity to be closely involved in the ongoing development of a major archive service. The post is based in Nottingham but will require travel around the East and West Midlands.
