I was asking about the characteristics of the sand bed in a C19 blast
furnace casting house. I've just been looking at samples of sand
from one in South Wales and wondered how it compared with either
contemporary accounts or observation. This example was a
relatively well sorted, sub-rounded to well-rounded, very fine sand.
