I am glad someone is taking a fresh look at this matter. This is all so very interesting, but the fight has been quit devoid of hard consideration of the evidence. Just a lot of emotional posturing. I am glad you are looking at this from the aspect of the material composition of the "artifacts."
You might want to contact the Arizona Geological Survey to find out about lead deposits in the Tucson area. Lots of copper around there, but I am not sure about lead that might have been mined and used to make the items. This could have been done either recently or in the past. You would want to look at the trace elemental content of the galena (lead sulfide) locally available to see if they matched what you are seeing.

I know I have seen pictures on the web, but can't locate them right now.
While some of the phrases on the artifacts might well be found in a modern day textbook, we are talking about a language that was used a long time ago within a religion that has not changed much until recently. So "Ave Maria" is going to be found connected to items both old and new.
