JOB ADVERT
Two post-doctoral research associate positions are available in the Biostatistics Group, Division of Primary Care and Population Health Sciences at Imperial College.
Salary: £22,116-£32,232 inclusive of London allowance
Project title: Bayesian methods for combining multiple Individual and Aggregate data Sources in observational studies (BIAS)
This is an exciting opportunity for two ambitious post-docs with a PhD in statistics or a related quantitative subject to develop their research careers as applied statisticians. You will work as part of the recently commissioned Imperial College Research Methods Node www.bias-project.org.uk <http://www.bias-project.org.uk/> , which together with five other Nodes and the Hub site, constitute the new ESRC National Centre for Research Methods www.ncrm.ac.uk <http://www.ncrm.ac.uk/> .
The work will involve leading edge research in statistical methodology for combining data from multiple sources, applied to social and health sciences.
Post 1 (MJ039/05) will focus on developing methodology for quantifying and reducing various types of biases. This work will include development of a generic framework for probabilistic sensitivity analysis for observational studies. (Duration 33 months)
Post 2 (MJ040/05) will focus on the problem of prediction of small-area socio-economic 'indicators' such as income, crime rates, social capital and so on, using data on the indicator from individual-level surveys in a partial sample of areas, plus relevant area-level covariates available for all areas from e.g. census and administrative sources. (Duration 30 months)
Both positions will be supervised jointly by Dr Nicky Best and Professor Sylvia Richardson and will be based in the internationally-renowned Biostatistics group www.icbiostatistics.org.uk <http://www.icbiostatistics.org.uk/> within the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health at Imperial College.
Application form and further details are available from http://www.imperial.ac.uk/employment/research/index.htm#0905x2rabio.
