Hi John, Marcus
we looked into this a year or so back, the problem is the tidal range
and how rough the water gets at the docking point. I'm not sure how much
rise and fall there is on the Devon side but we have around 40 ft max
tidal range once spring and neep tides are taken into account.
the London solution could work but ramps can get very long,
one solution we came up with was to place a mast lift on the pontoon.
The pontoon locked in place while the lift was in use, preventing
movement, this requires piles to contain movement of the pontoon.. Mast
lifts do not have to have set heights for the boarding platform.
the other was to use a dockside crane with a basket to lift people up
and down, this can work for a pontoon or directly onto the boat if it is
large enough.
Regards
Dave C
