If they are doing things like stepped access to a new building then we
would be throwing the book at them.The building needs to comply with
Building Regs.
However, on specific items like wheelchair-accessible showers, if they can
argue in an Access Statement, (which should have come in with the plans,)
that this facility would never be used because it is only for staff
performing heavy manual work and is not a sensible use of space then that
could be acceptable. It should also make clear that they take full
responsibility re DDA ll obligations in the future.
It could be worse - I'm doing a report on a brand new building with no
level thresholds, no handrails etc etc all in all terrible access - what
is it? A new rheumatology unit....
