I see that the designer of the scheme Ben Hamilton-Baillie, is speaking
on day two of the Merseytravel "Disability on the Agenda" conference on
the 3rd and 4th of February. Could be interesting..

Subject: Re: [ACCESSIBUILT] Pilot scheme to remove road markings and
kerbs.
Attached is an example of what may happen with all control markings
removed. The photo was taken in a part time pedestrian precinct out of
core hours.
I had a joint meeting with the Police and highway authority to have the
situation changed but to no avail. It is perfectly legal for vehicles to
drive or park anywhere on the street.
For eighteen hours a day Out of pedestrian core hours vehicles travel at
speeds exceeding 30 mph.
I am ambulant and unable to walk in a straight line without assistance
also I fall down without warning many times in a week. Using this street
frightens me to death.
Blind and partially sighted people tend to avoid this main shopping area
at these times.
I hope that as a result of this trial in Exhibition road that some
improvements can be made to introduce greater control.
