Andrew
I've been working with SPM5b and have seen a problem that may be the
same as what you are seeing:
SPM generates an error "no valid contrast defined!" and will not allow
me to continue.
I've been stepping through the source in the MatLab degugger and it
appears that SPM is seeing the contrast entry as a null string, though I
have entered a correct contrast vector in the SPM GUI.
spm_conman.m line 1675 appears to see dCon as an empty string and
therefore displays the error.
We have multiple Linux workstations in our lab with (in theory)
identical configurations. I am running the same SPM5b src (compiled
locally) and am using the same SPM.mat file, but find that this problem
occurs on one machine and not on another. I will continue to look into
this.
