Hi Folk
Thanks to those who replied; I was able to take some points to a meeting this morning.
We'll report back on any major issues we encounter if we go down the SharePoint route, and follow your progress with interest. Andy Ross says that Perth are starting:
"a Pilot project (with selected staff users) of the full SPS product in next semester."
As well as training, official documentation (on MSDN) seems a bit sketchy. We'll consider scalability issues (of CMS) carefully.

Subject: FW: Has anyone used Microsoft SharePoint or Content Management Se rver? (Scanned]
Hi,
We at Queen Margaret University College have just (Nov 2004) gone live with a staff intranet (inc news and document management) based on MS Sharepoint Portal Server 2003. It's an impressive product, but we've had some probs relating to its "newness".....It was only last week we managed to secure an administrator's training course...so new that the instructor didn't have instructor's manual, and there were gaps in delegates' manuals.
Also our standard backup software, Veritas Backup Exec, does not as yet have an agent for Sharepoint.
Will probably be able to talk more re our experiences a month or two down the line....In the meantime, any gen from anyone else using the product would be most welcome!

Subject: Has anyone used Microsoft SharePoint or Content Management Server?
Hi Folk
Lots to think about after Friday's meeting. Hope the rest of you had a good night out.
We (in Fife and Glenrothes Colleges) are thinking of implementing Microsoft SharePoint (either the Windows Services or the full Portal Server), possibly in conjunction with Microsoft Content Management Server. This is probably seen as cost-effective due to our existing campus licence agreement.
Does anyone have any experience/comments about these Microsoft products? Our initial requirements would be document and news management, and providing communication tools for staff apart from email.
