The Royal College of Surgeons of England

The National Collaborating Centre for Acute Care

RESEARCH ASSOCIATE - Health Economist

£22,500 - £26,500 per annum (depending on experience)

The National Collaborating Centre for Acute Care is a multi-disciplinary
research team whose aim is to develop, promote and support clinical
effectiveness issues related to acute care. The Centre develops evidence-
based guidelines for the NHS and is funded by the National Institute for
Clinical Excellence (NICE). It is based at the Royal College of Surgeons
of England and comprises a partnership between several academic,
professional and patient-based organisations. We are looking for someone
who is enthusiastic, committed and able to produce consistently high
quality work.

The health economics input into clinical guidelines involves critically
reviewing and summarising the most up-to-date economic research on aspects
of care of specific relevance to the guidelines, and producing original
cost-effectiveness models. You will also contribute to developing
methodologies for the economics of acute care. We have links to the Health
Economics Research Group (HERG) at Brunel University. There would be
potential for the successful candidate to be involved in collaborative work
between our Centre and HERG.

You will be a masters graduate with a relevant degree in Health Economics,
Health Services Research or a related discipline. It is essential that you
are confident presenting health economic ideas to non-economists.

Benefits include 25 days holiday and 4 College privilege days, flexi time,
subsidised restaurant, in house gym and squash court and a contributory
pension scheme.

Closing date: 28th January 2005
