Canadian Disability Studies Association (CDSA) Association canadienne d' études sur le handicap (ACÉHa)
2nd Annual Conference

Conference Theme: Paradoxes of Citizenship: Environments, Exclusions, Equity The Canadian Disabilities Studies Association is planning its second annual conference as part of The Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences 2005. The theme for this year is very relevant to disability studies, and provides an opportunity to discuss the challenges, as well as the richness of diversity that contribute to our unique culture.
We invite you to submit papers related to the conference theme including: Critical examination disability culture, politics, social policy, history, technology, education, housing, leadership, geography and arts.
Guidelines for Submitting Proposals:
Proposals should include the following information:
1) Title of presentation
2) Contact information: name, affiliation, mailing address, phone number, and e-mail for each presenter;
3) Format of your proposal:
___ Paper presentation (20-minute presentation)
___ Panel (90-minute block for presentation of 3-4 papers by presenters. Please note that panel proposals require BOTH an abstract that includes a 250-word description of the panel topic AND a 250-word abstract for each
participant.)
___ Workshop (90-minute application of a specific program or exercise)
___ CIDA -CFHSS (Please note the reduced time frame for these presentations -NOVEMBER 28/2004)
4) Abstract (250 words) with the following: Title and author(s), statement of the thesis, findings, or significance; description of content and structure; information on how this presentation will be made accessible; audiovisual requirements.
The deadline for proposals is February 15, 2005.
We plan to notify participants of their acceptance by March 15, 2005.

PLEASE NOTE:
The following opportunity is provided by CIDA in collaboration with the Canadian Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences. It provides a unique opportunity for collaboration. In order to allow for interaction and dialogue between CIDA and members of the Canadian academic community from different research areas, and to facilitate the exchange of research and practical findings, ideas and experiences amongst scholars, policy makers and practitioners, the 2005 Program's preliminary focus will be on multidisciplinary sessions organized entirely by associations who participate in the 2005 Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences.
Generally, sessions are to fall in line with the 2005 Congress theme, Paradoxes of Citizenship, and one or more of its sub-themes, Environments, Exclusion and Equity; they must be open to all registered delegates and be integrated into the associations program, and must be acknowledged as part of the CIDA-CFHSS Collaborative Program. Preference will be given to sessions encouraging active participation such as panels, colloquia, focus groups or workshops. The integration of one or more representative(s) of CIDA is an essential element of this sponsorship. The Agency will take it upon itself to suggest suitable participants/contributors for each selected session, and will look after his/her travel, accommodation and conference costs.
Upper funding limits are set at approximately $5,000 (depending on the number and quality of proposals received), with the exact sponsorship amount to be determined by the following criteria:
§ Relevance to international development
§ Relationships to the Congress Theme
§ Originality
§ Participants'/invited speakers' profiles
