CALL FOR PAPERS
The 1st European Conference on Population Geographies, ‘Population
Policies, Institutions and Changing Distributions’ (organised by the
Population Geography Research Group (PGRG) of the RGS–IBG)
30-31 March 2005, School of Geography, University of Wales Swansea
The remit for papers is intentionally broad and papers should be submitted
on any topic relevant to population geography. The organisers will decide
the strands of the conference once they have received the abstracts.
Papers will be 20-25 minutes long, allowing for 5-10 minutes discussion in
½ hour slots. Although designed for geographers, contributions are welcome
from those who would not regard themselves as population geographers, but
are working in pertinent research areas, such as Demography, Sociology,
Economics, Social Anthropology, who are interested in broadly geographical
aspects of population.
Postgraduates are also encouraged to attend. Attendance does not require
the presentation of a paper, but we would strongly encourage people to
submit papers.
Please send titles and abstracts of papers to [log in to unmask] by
February 15th 2005.
The submission date for registration is 31 January 2004.
Of course, our choice of title is inaccurate as there have been previous
influential and well-attended population geography conferences; we simply
describe this as the 'first European' to indicate our hope that such a
meeting can become a biannual event for European population geographers
(and those with related interests in other disciplines). The 'second'
European Conference on Population Geographies will be held in March / April
of 2007 in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The ‘European conferences’ will
therefore take place during the intervening years of the biannual
International Population Conferences (next one being held in the summer of
2006 in Boulder, Colorado).
We attach a copy of the booking form. If you have any further queries
about the meeting please do not hesitate to contact us.
All the best
Darren and Keith
