Dear all,
Apologies for cross posting.
Those of you who attended the UK LOM Core meeting hosted by the CETIS
Metadata SIG and UK MEG in August may remember that I rashly promised
to complete an update of the application profile by the end of the
year. Well I haven't actually completed the update but the bulk of
the work is now done. You can view the latest Work in Progress at
http://www.cetis.ac.uk/profiles/uklomcore/wip/
I've extensively rewritten the introduction and added a conformance
statement. In addition I've revised the data model and introduced the
use of IETF RFC 2119 terminology. Outstanding tasks that we have yet
to complete include:
1. Revising the Definitions / Glossary section of the introduction
2. Updating the Accessibility Metadata section to refer to recent
developments.
3. Defining null values for all REQUIRED elements.
4. Updating UKEL mapping table.
One other outstanding issue that we need to address relates to the UKEC
vocabulary which does not conform to the LOM as it duplicates a term
(higher education) from the existing LOM vocabulary. Phil and I have
discussed this issue at length but have not come up with a
satisfactory resolution yet.
This current draft of the UK LOM Core, 0.3_1204, will remain a Work In
Progress until Metadata SIG and MEG members have had an opportunity to
comment on it. I'd appreciate if you could review this latest
release, and particularly the introduction, to ensure that it
accurately reflects the consensus we reached at the meeting. You can
view Phil's record of issues and resolutions online at
http://metadata.cetis.ac.uk/sig_meetings/glasgow-aug-2004_html
Please note, this version of the document still includes tracking so
the some of the formatting is a bit screwy. I've also left Phil's
comments in the document even though I've now addressed many of the
issues he raised.
Please forward any comments to the CETIS Metadata SIG list or to me
directly.
Best wishes for Christmas and New Year
Lorna
