Like most newcomers at Pennsylvania's maximum-security prison for young
males, convicted killer John Gebauer at some point will step,
inadvertently, on a painted crest on the floor of a residential wing at
SCI-Pine Grove
The faux pas will cost the Washington County teenager 50 biceps-breaking
push-ups on the spot. It's just one of the nuances in the regimental
state-run prison program at Pine Grove in Indiana County. ..

Russell said Pine Grove, opened almost four years ago, attempts to
rehabilitate all its young detainees. Individualized programs are developed
to meet their special needs in education and adolescent development.
"The entire institution is designed as a therapeutic community. The
programs use behavior modification as a primary management tool," Russell
said.
