Lynn Schofield Clark of the CU-Boulder School of
Journalism and Mass Communication has done a lot of
good work on religion and youth, mainly focused on the
signficance of popular culture in their religiosity.
Also, Christian Smith Univ. of N. Carolina, Chapel
Hill, has a major research project underway that, I
believe, includes your topic. He was the lead author
on an article summarizing the literature on adolescent
religious participation that can be found at
