On 4 November at the end of my Nicholson exhibition posting I mentioned the
exhibition (until 12 December) of eastern healing in "Body Mind Spirit". at
the Brunei Gallery, SOAS, London WC1 (exhibits from the Wellcome Libray).
In the set of 11 small roundels of Hindu gods, in addition to Krishna (with
Rada) playing his flute, there is also elephant-headed Ganesha (see my 11th
November message re the Swastika).
Also at the foot of the stairs there is a large complex Buddhist Tibetan
Wheel of Life dated 1904; as referred to in "Kim", Chap. 1, the lama says
to the museum Curator " I will bring thee a picture of...and of the Wheel
of Life".
Edward Said in the Penguin edition (1987) wrote in his note Note 73 to
Chap. 1 that this is "a diagram illustrating the Buddhist belief that all
life is suffering..." the different parts of the diagram illustrate
rebirth. The Wellcome exhibit does not include the Buddha.
