The 4th International Conference on the Care and Treatment of Offenders
with a Learning Disability
Organised by the Faculty of Health, University of Central Lancashire,
Preston, UK
In association with Northgate & Prudhoe NHS Trust, Nottinghamshire
Healthcare NHS Trust and the Prison Healthcare Service for England and
Wales
Wednesday 6th - Friday 8th April 2005
University of Central Lancashire, Preston, UK
Background
This three day conference, with a growing international reputation, is
now recognised as one of the foremost opportunities for reflection and
sharing for services providing care for the Learning Disabled Offender,
both in the public and independent health sectors and the criminal
justice system. The conference, and its published proceedings, has
contributed to providing a platform for this speciality, often regarded
as a minority interest by both health and criminal justice mainstream
services.
The conference will provide an opportunity to hear presentations from
eminent international researchers as well as smaller scale research and
innovations in concurrent presentations. Hosted by the University of
Central Lancashire the conference also offers unparalleled networking
opportunities for delegates from the UK and overseas.
The conference will be of interest to a wide audience including health,
social care and criminal justice professionals working in:
Learning Disabilities, Voluntary Organisations, Prison Service, User
Groups and Families, Social Work, Community Services, Probation,
Education, Independent Sector and Police Service.

Papers / Workshops are invited from any discipline or perspective
relevant to the management or care of learning disabled offenders or
