italian-studies: Scholarly discussions in any field of Italian studies
I am organizing the following session for the upcoming NEMLA meeting in
Boston.
"After Tondelli: Bodies, Genders, and Knowledges in Italian Fiction
after 1990"
Since the 1990s, the Italian literary scene has been characterized by a
Renaissance of narrative fiction. This panel seeks contributions that
explore some of the new authors and trends that have emerged over the
last decade and a half. While all proposals are welcome, we would be
particularly interested in papers dealing with the following issues:
(a) the representation of the body (e.g., embodiment, mind/body
dualism, suffering, pleasure);
(b) narrative explorations of sexuality and gender (e.g., queer
identities);
(c) the cognitive dimension of fiction (e.g., the potential of
language, the role of the writer/intellectual);
(d) the interaction between the local and the global (e.g., pop culture
and local traditions).
We are also looking for papers which locate this new fiction within a
historical perspective and consider the role of Pier Vittorio Tondelli
(his novels, essays and editorial initiatives such as the Under 25
project) in promoting and providing a cultural space for this literary
experiences.
There is still room on the panel so if anyone is interested please
contact me. Sincerely,
Eugenio Bolongaro
