Applications are invited for a tenure-stream position at the rank of Assistant
Professor. A Ph.D., demonstrated excellence in teaching and research, and
native or near-native command of German are required.
This is a joint appointment, 80% in the Department of Germanic Languages and
Literatures and 20% in the Centre for Medieval Studies. The position will
augment the German department's current teaching and research in German
language, literature, and culture. The Centre for Medieval Studies is an
interdisciplinary department offering graduate degrees (MA, PhD) in all
aspects
of Medieval Studies; through the joint appointment with the Centre for
Medieval
Studies, the position will strengthen the study of medieval language,
literature and culture in German. In particular, we welcome applications from
candidates with a strong interdisciplinary research interest in the medieval
and / or early modern periods and proven abilities to teach Middle High German
language. Interest and proven abilities in teaching courses in modern German
language is an asset.
The position offers the opportunity to teach and conduct research with a
highly
diverse student population and to work with groups and institutions that
reflect the diversity of the Greater Toronto region. The appointment commences
on 1 July 2005. The normal teaching load is five half-year courses or their
equivalent. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
