Guerilla Radio: can rock 'n' roll really save the world?
An evening of music, film documentary and discussion to mark the
reissue of Matthew Collin's book This Is Serbia Calling: Rock 'n'
Roll Radio and Belgrade's Underground Resistance.
Tuesday 30th November, 7pm
Nash room and bar, ICA
The Mall, London SW1Y 5AH
Nearest tube: Charing Cross
Tickets: £10/£9
Set in Belgrade in the 90s, This Is Serbia Calling is the story of a
courageous group of young people living under Slobodan Milosevic's
repressive rule. They waged a 10-year battle for freedom, armed only
with a radio transmitter, some rock'n'roll records, and a dream of
truth, justice and another kind of life.
Matthew Collin will discuss the impact of the legendary radio station
B92 alongside Gordon Paunovic, Belgrade's best-known DJ, who worked
at the station while police raids and savage censorship were
commonplace. Also appearing are Bill Drummond, of The K Foundation
and The KLF, whose 'The Magnificent' became an anthem during the
pre-revolution period in Belgrade; Gordana Igric from The Institute
of War and Peace Reporting; and Glasgow-based filmmaker Doug Aubrey,
who will screen his extraordinary documentary of B92's struggle, See
You in the Next War. Followed by a live set from Gordan Paunovic.
