Dear WG Members
One of the issues discussed at the Shanghai meeting of the Working Group was
the charter. The wording of the charter has been changed substantially to
better reflect the scope of the Group's activity and so that it does not
read like a list of work items.
The proposed wording for the charter is as follows:
"The DCMI Preservation WG serves as: a forum for sharing information on, and
investigating, preservation metadata and its relationship to resource
discovery; and as a liaison with other global preservation metadata
initiatives, as appropriate."
The meeting also spent some time discussing a number of proposed work items
for 2004-5. The list of activities agreed on at the meeting are:
1. Investigate need for and practicality of holding a pre-conference
workshop on preservation metadata [Heike and Andrew - by March 2005]
2. List of existing preservation metadata schemas - Reports from PREMIS re
survey & InterPARES re analysis to be sent [to Andrew] and combined list of
existing schemas sent to mailing list by January 2005.
3. Update links on web page [Heike by end of 2004]
4. Set up DC-Preservation blog/wiki? Heike and Andrew to talk to Makx
Dekkers
5. PREMIS metadata report - coordinate comments (report draft early
December?) [Corey]
6. Circulate Matrix of preservation metadata areas of activity [Andreas -
end November 2004]
Heike and I would welcome your comments on both the charter and the work
items. Please respond directly to the DC-Preservation mailing list.
Note, also, that item 4 regarding the Wiki has been discussed with Makx and
Harry Wagner already and a trial wiki for the DC-Preservation Working Group
is to be set up soon.
cheers
Andrew Wilson
