I just downloaded and installed that latest Analysis (release 20) onto our
newish Solaris server (running Solaris 9). The first problem was that Sun
tar is still broken (with longish file names) so I had to also download
and compile gnu tar, just in order to unpack the Analysis files.
I installed no other software. The sysadmin for the server had installed
Python 2.2, Tcl/Tk 8.4 and OpenGL as provided by Sun and Glut 3.7.
Compilation worked ok (with one warning about a function isspace in one of
the C files).
It also started up and worked and displayed a spectrum ok first time. I
should say that this was running the code on Solaris but displaying it on
my Linux box (I'm not sure there is a direct screen for the server, and
even if so it must be locked away somewhere). The OpenGL information the
program reported was:
GL_VENDOR = NVIDIA Corporation
GL_RENDERER = GeForce2 MX/AGP/3DNOW!
GL_VERSION = 1.5.1 NVIDIA 61.11
Unfortunately our network is a bit of a dog (it took around 15 minutes
just to transfer a 32 Mb sample data file from my Linux box to the server)
so Analysis in this mode would be slow loading up the data.
