Research Assistant – Evaluation of Agri-Environment Schemes

Salary: On the RA1a Scale (£19,460 - £29,128)
A postdoctoral researcher is required to work on the development of a
generic methodology for evaluating the effectiveness of European agri-
environment schemes. The post will be available from 1 January 2004 for 30
months.
The researcher will work as part of a team on an exciting new EU-funded
project in the School of Agriculture, Policy and Development (rated 5 in
last RAE), the aim being to develop and pilot a cross-European method for
evaluating the effectiveness of agri-environmental schemes. The research
will be challenging, requiring liaison with project partners and
stakeholders in 7 countries, and will include travel to a number of
European countries.
Interested candidates should have a good knowledge of:
• European farming systems and agri-environmental policy and schemes
• The use of indicators to assess the performance of schemes
• The collection, analysis and interpretation of large datasets
• Farm survey methods (preferable)
The candidate will also need to have good communication and IT skills, be
able to work effectively as part of a team and be an able writer. In
addition to the timely completion of the project, the researcher will be
expected to contribute to the publication of results in international
research journals.
