User-Centred Design of Socio-Technical Systems.
Free Seminar
Thames Valley University Institute for IT
St Mary's Road, Ealing, London W5
Wednesday 24th November - 6.45pm - 8.30pm
Refreshments will be available.
The speaker will be Professor Ken Eason, Director of the Bayswater Institute.
User-centred approaches to software and systems design are often recommended as ways of avoiding user resistance and developing systems that people will actually use. Ken Eason has been at the forefront of the practice of user-centred design for over 30 years and is a specialist in socio-technical systems design which recognizes that the organization needs 'designing' as well as the technical system. In this talk he will discuss practical ways of being user-centred and share his experiences of adopting this approach in many system developments.
Ken is Emeritus Professor at Loughborough University where he has researched, consulted and taught user-centred approaches to the development and implementation of IT systems for over 30 years. He is the author of 'Information Technology and Organisational Change' and many other books and papers. He is now Director of the Bayswater Institute, an independent research organization that specializes in helping organizations with the integration of social and technical considerations.
