PhD Research Student Bursary in
Contemporary Chinese Cultural Studies

The Centre for the Study of Democracy, University of Westminster, is
offering a bursary for 1 full-time MPhil/PhD studentship in the field of
Contemporary Chinese Cultural Studies, including gender studies, art,
visual culture and media in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and the overseas
Chinese diaspora.
Who is eligible
Candidates of any nationality may apply. They must have successfully
applied for a place to study at the Centre in order to be considered for
the CCS PhD research student bursary. Candidates must possess a Masters
degree from a UK institution or equivalent degree from a recognised foreign
university. Candidates must use Chinese language sources in their research.
What is its value
Tuition fees remitted and an annual bursary of £9,000 for a maximum of
three years, subject to satisfactory performance (progress review at the
end of 1st year)
Notification of competition result
Applicants will be notified in January 2005 in writing regarding the
outcome of their application. No results will be given by telephone.
Start date
Normally, candidates for the PhD programme at the Centre for the Study of
Democracy start at the beginning of each academic year. In this instance,
the candidate awarded the bursary will be expected to start in February
2005.

1) the standard PhD application form, to be sent with a covering letter,
including a description of their research proposal, a preliminary
bibliography, and two academic references to:
