We have a trephine and paper clips but the trephine is really rather disappointing on finger nails and we reserve this for use in the eye room
A CAUTIONARY TALE
to reduce the risk of causing a fire we removed our old fashioned meths glass/ wick burner and replaced it with an off the shelve gas lighter type device which produces an instant localised flame for heating the paper clips
the new safer device set a plastic sheet on the very first patients' bed on fire !
was actually switched off but had remained hot enough to ignite the sheet
went up in a ball of flames within seconds and very dramatic
most embarrassing but thankfully no injury caused
so much for progress...

I never had much joy with those electric gadgets and remain a paper clip
afficionado. (Having retired, it'll be the gas cooker...)
BIG paper clip holes won't get blocked. Heating to a nice red glow helps..
