Subject: STP Posts its Latest Electronic Book
The Society's newest e-book, Preparing the New Psychology Professoriate:
Helping Graduate Students Become Competent Teachers is now available on
the STP homepage
(http://teachpsych.lemoyne.edu/teachpsych/div/divindex.html). To access
the book, go to http://teachpsych.lemoyne.edu/teachpsych/div/divindex.html
Scroll down the left-hand side of the screen until you come to the “cover”
for the book. Clicking on the cover will take you directly to the book.
The book is edited by Bill Buskist (Auburn University), Barney Beins
(Ithaca College), and Vinny Hevern (Le Moyne College). It contains 31
chapters written or co-written by 46 authors drawn from higher educational
settings across the United States. The book offers a scholarly rationale
for training graduate teaching assistants (GTAs), alternative models for
the training of GTAs, guidance about what differing types of institutions
are looking for in applicants for new assistant professors, the experience
of moving from graduate student to assistant professor, and a selected
bibliography on college and university teaching.
This e-book is available in multiple formats for download and will soon be
accessible for viewing completely online. This book also marks the first
use by STP of a comprehensive peer-review process in which members of a
board of 31 consulting editors independently evaluated each chapter in the
text and provided feedback to both the authors and primary book editors.
