Subaru presented all this stuff at ADASS a long time ago. They had a lot
of sleepless nights turning IRAF into a nice set of coherent callable
routines. Last I heard the funky corba code actually launched a shell
script at the backend to do the IRAF stuff. That may have changed but I
doubt it.
