Message from Lorraine Craig (RGS-IBG)

Research groups representative on Research Committee.
Following the resignation of Mike Parnwell from the Research Committee, it
was agreed at the last meeting of the Research Groups Sub-Committee that
an election would be held for a replacement. Each research group can
nominate one person. Nominations must be accompanied by a 75 word
statement on why the person wishes to stand. Please can we have your
nominations no later than 5 November 2004. If there is more than one
nomination an election will be held. To keep in sequence of elected
positions, the post will be from end of November 2004 to June 2006.
The Research group representative is required to attend meetings of the
Research Committee and Research Groups Sub-Committee both of which are
held on the same day.
Hon Secretary vacancy.
We have an exceptional set of circumstances at present with no Hon
Secretary for Research. Some of you may recall that Keith Richards was Hon
Secretary for one year before being elected Vice-President. The Hon
Secretary post is normally open to a voting process throughout the whole
of the Society. This procedure takes place in spring every three years.
However, it has been agreed that following nominations from the Research
Groups, and an election with the Research Groups if necessary, that an
individual can be co-opted from November 2004 to June 2005. In spring
2005 the post will be advertised to the whole fellowship of the Society
and we will have a normal election process for one year, June 2005 to June
2006.
The Hon Secretary is required to attend meetings of the Research Groups
Sub-Committee, Research Committee, and Council (December 2004 and April
2005).
Please can we have nominations for Hon Secretary position to me no later
than 5th November accompanied by 75 words why the person wishes to stand.
