GRADUATE STUDENT CONFERENCE IN ITALIAN STUDIES
IL TESTO IN MOVIMENTO:
THEMES AND TECHNIQUES IN ITALIAN FILM AND LITERATURE
FEBRUARY 4TH AND 5TH 2005
HARVARD UNIVERSITY
In recent years, many scholars have enriched our perception of literature
and film by studying the intersections and relationships between these two
languages. This approach has contributed greatly to our understanding of
how literature influences cinematic production and how literary works are
translated into films. At the conference, we would like to discuss the
symbiosis between literature and film from two different points of view. We
will not only examine the transition from text to film, but we also hope to
explore how film and filmmaking have enriched literary production with new
themes and techniques.
Individuals should submit a one-page abstract for a twenty-minute
presentation. Papers may be presented in English or Italian. We encourage
scholars to submit papers that examine topics related to Italian literary
and filmic culture such as:
From text to film:
- Adaptations and plot changes
- Women and feminism between film and literature
- Representations of the Other in film and literature
- Time and space on the page and on the screen
- Visual expressions of propaganda
- From verbal to visual symbolism
- Literary genres’ influence on cinematic production
From film to text:
- Representations of films, actors and movie theaters in literature
- Cinematographic techniques in prose and poetry
- Books, poems, autobiographies, etc. written by actors and directors
- Vision and perspective in literature
- Authors who have reflected on the relationship between literature
and film (Pirandello, Pasolini, Calvino, Celati, Tondelli...)
- Images of the diva in Italian culture
- Movies and comic books
The possible topics are by no means limited to those listed above. To be
considered, proposals must include: a working title; a one-page abstract,
double-spaced; your name and contact information. Proposals should be sent
as an attachment to [log in to unmask] and [log in to unmask] by
November 7th.
GRADUATE STUDENT CONFERENCE IN ITALIAN STUDIES
IL TESTO IN MOVIMENTO:
TEMI E TECNICHE DI CINEMA E LETTERATURA ITALIANA
4-5 FEBBRAIO 2005
HARVARD UNIVERSITY
- Visione e prospettiva in letteratura
(Pirandello, Pasolini, Calvino, Celati, Tondelli...)
- Immagini della diva nella cultura italiana
- Cinema e fumetto
proposte devono essere inviate in allegato a [log in to unmask] e
