Special effects: artifices and magic
The history and practice of special effects
Convenors: Emmanuel Grimaud (CNRS) and Denis Vidal (IRD)
While the notion of Special Effect is commonly used in the context of modern audiovisual technologies, this workshop intends to look at it in a wider perspective (historical and anthropological) referring to various fields, arts or cultural
set-ups, in order to build it up as an object.
This two-day workshop will be organised around the following topics:
Circus, magic, great souls and special effects
*
Foam, water and digital screens, computers, lasers, fireworks and special effects
*
Humans, robots, gods and special effects
Please see below for full programme details
This event is supported by the Institut Français du Royaume-Uni, London
