[EMS-NEWS]
29.x.2004
Dear All,
Greetings!
I have to take this opportunity to thank Ruth, Mike, Oli and Sebastian for
presenting their work last night. It was a thoroughly engaging session that
had my mind roaming in all sorts of directions!
And thank you Thanos for starting the ball rolling (metaphorically
speaking), on the issue of 'space'.
Physical space:
Do we have enough of it? Can we have enough of it? Do we want more/less of
it?
Metaphysical space:
Do we have enough of it? Can we have enough of it? Do we want more/less of
it?
Is one set of questions 'transposable' (think 'mapping') to another?
Are the questions themselves a delineation of the 'space' that we're
discussing?
Space - does it exist? Or does it exist only as an illusion?
There's space in front of the loudspeaker, behind the loudspeaker, in the
loudspeaker, and even a space suggested by the sound coming out of the
loudspeaker.
I like space, lots of it, but will that inadvertently impinge on that
(space) of my neighbours'?
Space... the final frontier. Let's try to go where no composer has been to
before.
Best regards
Chuan
