Forwarded on behalf of Dana Cooper:
I am researching the motivations, expectations, experiences of Irish women who
immigrated to the US during and after the Irish potato famine. Irish-Catholics
were all but persecuted for their religious beliefs in the nineteenth and early
twentieth centuries. I suspect that these women were especially targeted
because they immigrated alone--a unique pattern in examining immigration
trends.
I am trying to locate secondary sources (books, articles, anything really!)
with narratives discussing/explaining why Irish women came to the US, what
their expectations were, and the realities once they arrived. Any
suggestions regarding this train of thought--narratives or otherwise--will
be GREATLY appreciated.
Sincerely,
Dana Cooper
