Dear Friends,

World Bank Hosts 2004 Disability and Development Conference
On Tuesday, November 30 ? Wednesday, December 1, 2004, the World Bank will organize its second international disability and development conference, entitled "Disability and Inclusive Development: Sharing, Learning and Building Alliances." This event constitutes a follow-up to the Bank's December 2002 international conference, and will take stock of the exciting work done in the disability and development community over the past two years. The conference aims to build upon its past work in order to further reduce global poverty for disabled people.
This is a two-day event held in Washington, DC that will involve many of the World Bank's partners which include disabled persons organizations (DPOs), civil society organizations (CSOs), development agencies, donors, academia, and more. Participants will attend panel discussions, listen to keynote addresses from
distinguished speakers within the disability and economic development
communities, brows the many disability-related display booths, and share knowledge on state-of-the-art technology and best practice in disability work. The second day of the conference, December 1, marks World AIDS Day and will focus its morning session on the themes of "Disability and HIV/AIDS" and "Women, Children and HIV/AIDS."
Dr. Amartya Sen will be a special keynote speaker on the economics of inclusion on the afternoon of December 1, 2004.
Online registration for the 2004 Disability Conference is now open through the World Bank?s Disability website.
