As I've said before the SCUBA-2 project will be using HDS/NDF for a data
format and using C.
Clearly this also means that SCUBA-2 will need to manipulate blocks of
FITS headers but I don't want to have to write YAFH manipulation library
[SURF has its own since I don't think John knew about the kappa
implementation - which bit of kaplibs does this? I see convert seems to
have it's own FITS header code as well!].
Anyway, what's the recommended library to use for this from C?
Naively AST must surely have all the functions I could possible want
(since how else can the fits channels work) but there is clearly no public
interface to these libraries.
David, would it be possible to have a public API to the FITS header code?
Or is there a better alternative? [I don't want to use cfitsio purely for
headers if I can get away with it] Writing a C interface to the existing
fortran libraries doesn't seem to be the way to go.
Thanks
