Working Papers in Social Sciences and Policy
is a new series of papers drawing on theoretical and policy-oriented research
associated with the social sciences at the University of Hull
Here are details of our latest publication.
'The dimensions of 'race' and ethnicity remain obscure in much UK social
research, despite the fact that nearly one in ten of the UK population
is now from a minority ethnic grouping. These five papers, based on a
seminar series at the University of Hull given by researchers from
other UK Universities, offer a varied and stimulating contribution to
debates about 'race' in research, covering issues such as the use of
anti-social behaviour legislation to criminalise black and minority
ethnic communities, the meaning of 'Yugoslavness' downstream from the
dismantling of Yugoslavia as a unitary state, the construction of male
identities amongst Black men, the role of South Asian researcher within
South Asian communities as insider or outsider and debates about mixed
race within the UK and the USA. Each raises interesting and important
methodological and ethical issues for researchers. '
