* note the new venue, round the corner from our usual venue, for this evening seminar only! *
The UK 2000 Time Use Survey was the first official survey of its kind in the United Kingdom. It was co-funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and five government departments, was in the field from June 2000 to September 2001, and the data was launched in April 2002. Since then analyses across a range of areas have been ongoing.
The time use data looks at how people spend their time, what they are doing for each 10 minutes of the day, where they are and who they are with. This information can be linked to a range of demographic information.
Sandra Short, Time Use Survey Manager from the Office for National Statistics, will give a brief description of the survey, and present some of the analysis and results and the ways in which the data is being used. In addition, she will cover how to access the data produced so far, and look at the pre-coded diary survey that it is hoped will take place in 2005.
The seminar is free to SRA members, while a small charge of £5 is payable by non-members. The seminar will take place at Jurys Hotel (Bedford 5 Room), which is at 16-22 Great Russell Street, London, WC1B 3NN. This is just round the corner from our usual venue, close to Tottenham Court Road tube (see http://www.jurys-london-hotels.com/greatrussell_london/DIRECTIONS
and click on 'city map' in the left menu). There is no need to book:
simply turn up on the evening.
The seminar starts promptly at 5:00pm, followed by drinks in the bar at 6.30pm.
The Social Research Association looks forward to welcoming you.
