Hi David,
One possibility is to do direct-to-disc video captures using any standard
digital video camera that has firewire output and a hard disc capture
device, such as the FireStore FS-1
(http://www.focusinfo.com/products/firestore/fs-1.html).
In this solution, the video is captured to an external firwire hard disc,
which you can then connect to a computer for analysis. I used this setup
and found it very reliable. I'm sure there are other direct-to-disc
solutions that would work equally as well.
As with any digital media project, it's always good to have a backup. In
other words, it is highly advisable to capture to tape as well as to disc.
In the solution mentioned above, you can simultaneously record to disc and
tape.
Good luck.
