I am pleased to announce the publication of a new book,

"That's the Joint!: The Hip-Hop Studies Reader" (Routledge), edited by
Murray Forman and Mark Anthony Neal.

This book, with a foreward by Michael Eric Dyson, draws on roughly 25
years of scholarship, criticism, and journalism and features over 40
articles and essays by some of hip-hop's most astute analysts. Organized
thematically with section introductions by the editors, That's the
Joint! addresses history, identity politics of the hip-hop "nation,"
authenticity debates, gender issues, revolutionary politics, aesthetics,
production technologies, hip-hop as a cultural industry, and much more.

(In assembling the essays for the Reader, we surveyed existing syllabi
from rap and hip-hop courses as well as looking for individual course
sections in multiple academic disciplines that featured articles about
hip-hop. It covers most of the bases in terms of how hip-hop is
currently taught and hopefully it has a lot of flexibility -- MF)
