'Gendered spaces of tourism'
Convenor - Jacky Tivers - Anglia Polytechnic University,
[log in to unmask]
A jointly organised session between WGSG and GRTRG for the RGS-IBG
Annual Conference, September 2005 in London.
While leisure and gender issues have been the subject of considerable
investigation over the last 25 years, the relationships between gender
and
tourism have not been studied to the same extent. This session is
intended
to redress the balance, to some extent, by focusing on research which
specifically addresses the gendered nature of the tourism industry and
the
gendered practices of tourists, which together create 'gendered spaces'
of
tourism.
Possible themes:
Gendered employment in tourism
Gender and tourism marketing
Tourist places and their gender-coding
Gendered tourism practices
Gender, sexuality and tourism
Specific types of tourism in relation to gender - business tourism,
sports
tourism, heritage tourism, etc.
Suggested topics and/or abstracts should be sent to the Convenor, Jacky
Tivers at [log in to unmask] by the end of November 2004.
