Dear Larry,
Saying that academics are cavalier and disrespectful of 'research
subjects' is an entirely unfair accusation. The substance of the
particular series of emails on copyrights has been for all of us to
establish and understand what the ethical and legal standards are AS
IS. No one was saying they are right or wrong, and certainly no one
said that they planned to quote you in particular, nor anyone on this
list for that matter; the discussion was general in nature.
I am glad that we enjoy a variety of input on this list. On the other
hand, there is no need for you (and some others) to regularly libel
'academics' as if we are all some kind of borg entity. That's not fair
or accurate in the case of any grouping based on a single
characteristic.
If you have a specific issue with a particular project or type of
project, please do include details so that we can all learn how to
improve our methods to make them more effective, honest, respectful,
integral and ethical.
thanks for listening,
pjc
