7.00 The developer view
With an emphasis on the UK, this session will focus on the approach
adopted by international software providers in developing, customising
and delivering a global IT product to meet the needs of different
national markets.
7.40 Launch of the Institute for IT
8.10 The user view
Here we will approach the issue of IT globalisation from the end-user
perspective and investigate how user needs should be addressed to
achieve successful localisation and global development of IT systems.

Speaker profiles
Mark Greatorex - Mark is Microsoft Executive responsible for strategy
for business and consumer software known as .NET. This strategy
represents Microsoft's vision for the future of technology and Mark
leads the sales, technical and marketing groups working with customers
in all vertical markets, as well as partners and consultancies. In
addition, he is responsible for management of initiatives to the
developer community.
Ian Smith - Ian is Senior Vice President and Managing Director of Oracle
Corporation Ltd (UK, Ireland and South Africa). He joined Oracle in
1999, after five years with British Telecom, most recently as MD of UK
Customer Service, . He is also President of the Institute of Customer
Service. Before BT, Ian was Director of Business Partners at Digital
Equipment Company Ltd, gaining more than 20 years experience in the IT
industry.
Andy Smith - Andy is the founding Director of Thames Valley University's
Institute for IT. Prior to joining TVU he held both academic and
commercial roles. On the research front Andy leads a number of EC funded
projects looking at the development of usable systems in a global
context.
