3.1 An Introduction to Electronic Group Response Systems (EGRS) and
PRS
21 October 2004, 10:00 – 16:00
Goldsmiths College, London
Members - £85; non-members - £150
Presenters: Michael McCabe, University of Portsmouth
Steve Draper, University of Glasgow
The attention span of students during lectures is often quoted as 15
minutes and during many lectures is probably even less! Interactive
questioning is one way of enlivening lectures by actively engaging
students and breaking up traditional content delivery. Technology can
support this pedagogical approach, but it must be used appropriately.
Electronic group response systems enable students to communicate
their answers to the lecturer via one-way handsets and the lecturer
to display a frequency distribution of responses. The PRS Personal
Response System is a common example. Workshop participants will gain
practical, hands-on experience in the use of PRS and an awareness of
other systems, including those allowing free text responses.
Booking deadline Thursday 7 October 2004

6.2 JORUM news
The JORUM procurement process for the purchase, installation,
development and support of an online repository system for learning
and teaching materials has now been completed. The contract has been
awarded to Intrallect (http://www.intrallect.com/) for their
'intraLibrary Learning-Object Management System'. The contract was
awarded on 24th August 2004 following a European Union procurement
process that began in February 2004. Eight vendors were short listed
to tender from seventeen that submitted pre-qualification
questionnaires. JISC and the two national data centres were delighted
to offer the contract to Intrallect who tendered a very strong bid
and were able to demonstrate a robust and flexible standards-based
repository system.
Further information regarding JORUM can be located at
http://www.jorum.ac.uk

6.4 Online tools testing
EDEN, the European Distance and E-Learning Network invites you to
take part in testing the valuable online tools developed in frames of
a major European eLearning programme. The Consortium of the eTTnet
project (Training of Trainers Network for eLearning, supported by the

has developed a set of tools especially designed to contribute to the
professional development of teachers, trainers and training managers
in the shift from traditional learning to e-Learning. EDEN has co-
ordinated the Transnational Working Group for indicators.
The eTTnet tools (http://www.ettnet.net/sections/8/1.doc) are now
almost ready to be distributed, but being the core of our project the
final users (i.e.: teachers and trainers, e-learning project
managers, policy makers) we would like to invite you to test
whichever tool (possibly at least 4 of them) you are interested in
and provide us with your valuable feedback by completing and
submitting the short online questionnaires related to each product of
eTTnet by September 20th at the latest.
To view and test the tools you can access the eTTnet web portal at:
