Dear Friends of MEDICC,

MEDICC is asking for your support in the next few days!

The House will vote on travel and remittances to Cuba early next week during
debate on the Transportation-Treasury Appropriations Bill. We are urgently
requesting calls or faxes to everyone's Congressional office encouraging
support of the travel amendment (sponsored by Flake and McGovern) and the
remittances amendment (sponsored by Flake and Delahunt). Below is a list of
House members who merit special attention. If your Representative is listed,
or you have some other personal or organizational connection to any of them,
please act quickly. The list is provided by the Latin American Working Group
(LAWG). Their website will provide updates: www.lawg.org

The good news is that the Senate has already voted in favor of freedom to
travel to Cuba! Senator Byron Dorgan (D-ND) offered an amendment to the
transportation/treasury appropriations bill to end the travel ban generally,
which was passed. (This is the same amendment that passed the full Senate
and House last year but was removed by the leadership in conference).

Thank you,
Diane Appelbaum, RN, C-NP, MS
