Two Research Fellows/Associates
Social Exclusion, Spaces of Household Economic Practice and
Post-Socialism
Applications are invited for two Research Fellow/Associate posts to work on
a
project funded by the Economic and Social Research Council examining the
ways in which households and individuals negotiate forms of social exclusion
emerging from the introduction of the market economy in Slovakia and
Poland. This is a collaborative project involving both Queen Mary,
University of London and the University of Newcastle.
Post 1: Research Fellow/Associate - Slovakia (based at Queen Mary,
University of London)
Post 2: Research Fellow/Associate - Poland (based at the University of
Newcastle)
You should have a social science background in Geography or a related field.
Knowledge of economic geography and/or urban-social geography, and
experience in using quantitative and qualitative research techniques, and
data analysis are important. For Post 1, a good working knowledge of the
Slovak language is essential. For Post 2, a good working knowledge of the
Polish language is essential.
The posts are available for 18 months from 1 January 2005. They involve
working on all aspects of this project and will involve extended periods of
fieldwork in either Slovakia (Post 1) or Poland (Post 2).
Salary £18,893 - £21,010, on the RA1B/RA1A scales, depending on
qualifications and experience. Post 1 will also include an additional London
Allowance of £2,134.
