I don't recall anyone mentioning Slackware at all, though it may be on
the list of VMWare systems that Steve installed.
As you suggest, checking out the current repository is probably the
best thing to do, because it might be too confusing to handhold
building the old distribution simultaneously. However that's not
possible anonymously for now (and would in any case be for the brave,
still).
One solution would be to give him an account on cvs.starlink (possibly
a temporary one, like `guest') and give it read-only access to the
repository by listing the username in the file CVSROOT/readers (see
"Repository/Read-only access" in the CVS info pages).
Does anyone think this would be a mad idea?
I'd be willing to set up anoncvs on saturn if anyone were willing to
give me the root access that would be required. But I doubt that!
