I can't compare the two formats, I can say that if you go with a
digital recorder you want to make sure it records at the highest
frequency possible. I started with an Olympus DS-330 but found the
sound quality at its highest setting annoying at best and leading to
data loss at worst. I bought the DM-10, which samples at 44.1 kHz
rather than 12 kHz; what a difference. It's as good as any tape
recorder I've ever used. I'd highly recommend it (though wish it used
cards to store data on, and I wish I could afford the DM-20--more
memory).
