If anyone is responding to Rick, please also send the answer to me. I will be conducting 15 or so interviews during October and am looking for software to use. I heard that NUD*IST was best, but do not know that for certain. Also, if any software can take the digital tape recordings, that would be great. Anyone know?

Subject: Qualitative Research
Hi! I have valued the dialogue that has occurred since I
subscribed to the list, now I am in need of some
recommendations.
As I anticipate conducting qualitative research in Latin
America, I will be conducting approximately 50 interviews,
and 3-6 focus groups, combined with participant observation
(and perhaps a short questionnaire and case study
description).
As I intend on using Systran's translation program to assist
in the language area, I still seek information on:
1. a qualitative software program to help analyze and code
the data (fieldnotes, interviews, focus groups)
2. Is there a software program that will allow me to
digitally record interviews directly into my computer that
can be read in a text format allowing me to electronically
translate it, then use the qualitative program to analyze
and code it?
3. Your recommendations?
Thanks!
Rick
